The pandemic changed many things, including how legal matters are heard. In response, MahaRERA moved its complaint hearings to an online video conferencing system. But while the format changed, the need for discipline and dignity in the hearing process did not. To uphold the decorum of these digital courtrooms, MahaRERA issued Order No. 36\/2022<\/strong>, aimed at regulating participant behavior during online hearings.<\/p>\n

Earlier, under Order No. 23\/2021<\/strong>, the Authority officially adopted online formats to continue its work during lockdowns. However, the shift revealed some serious issues: participants were often seen eating or drinking on camera, attending in casual clothes, arriving late, and even speaking on the phone during proceedings. This behavior undermined the seriousness of the legal process.<\/p>\n

Order No. 36\/2022 is MahaRERA\u2019s response to such misconduct. It reminds all participants \u2014 whether they are parties, advocates, chartered accountants, or company secretaries \u2014 that virtual hearings demand the same level of respect as physical ones<\/strong>. The Authority has laid down five clear instructions<\/strong> that everyone must follow.<\/p>\n

First, participants must maintain a proper dress code and avoid distractions like mobile phones or refreshments. Second, no one is allowed to interrupt. They must speak only when invited by the Authority<\/strong>. Third, the camera must be kept on<\/strong> at all times for identity verification, while the mic should be off by default<\/strong> unless the person is speaking.<\/p>\n

Fourth, all participants are expected to log in on time<\/strong>, and must not engage in side conversations or directly address others during the session. Lastly, failure to follow these rules can result in strict action<\/strong> by MahaRERA \u2014 a sign that these directions are not just suggestions, but binding instructions.<\/p>\n

This order came into immediate effect<\/strong> and applies to every participant attending MahaRERA’s online hearings. Whether you are involved as a party to a complaint or representing someone professionally, you are expected to behave with dignity<\/strong>. The platform may be digital, but the process is as serious and real as ever.<\/p>\n

As citizens, we must remember that respecting legal procedures is not optional<\/strong>. Whether inside a courtroom or in a Zoom window, the justice system deserves our full attention and courtesy. Following these rules ensures that every party involved gets a fair chance \u2014 and that the process remains just and transparent.<\/p>\n
